Edit Dropdown List Items
If you have defined a profile field as a dropdown list, then you will see a link labeled "Items" in the Field Type column of the profile fields table.
By clicking on the Items link, you can edit the items which will appear in your dropdown list. The screen for editing these items displays a list of all current items, which you can edit or delete. You can also add new items.
To add a new item, simply fill in the bottom row of the table and click "Add." The "Field Value" is the value that will be stored in the database if a Member selects this value for his or her profile field. The "Field Name" is the name that will appear in the dropdown list that the user views to select his or her choice.
You can edit an existing item by clicking edit. This will cause the row for that item to become editable, and you can then make your changes. Click save to keep them, or click the cancel to continue without saving your changes. Items can be moved up and down in the dropdown list by clicking the Sort Order arrows; the entire list of items can be sorted alphabetically--by either field value or display value, ascending or descending--by clicking on the arrows next to Field Value or Display Value.
Often, you may want to include a profile field for users to enter their state or country of residence via a dropdown list. Rather than type in each state or country and its corresponding database code, you can import these commonly used values using the "Import Standard Items" feature. Simply select the list of items you wish to import and click "Import." This will cause a list of commonly used values to be imported into your dropdown list.
In this example, we've imported a list of States and their standard abbreviations. If you wanted users to select from a list of Canadian provinces and U.S. states, you could now select Canadian Provinces from the dropdown and click "Import". Your Members would now be able to choose from both provinces and states. As with all dropdown lists, you can edit any of the field values or display values, or change the sort order of the items you have imported.
